Punjabi style palak paneer

(Spinach with cottage cheese)


3 bunch of spinach (palak) ( roughly chopped and washed properly)

200 gm cottage cheese ( paneer ),

1 Onion chopped

2 tomatoes chopped

2-3 green chillies chopped

2 tbsp ginger chopped

3-4 garlic cloves chopped

1 tsp cumin seed powder

Salt to taste

½ tsp red Chilli Powder

1 tsp garam masala Powder

½ tsp coriander powder

Cream for garnishing (optional)

2 tbsp Desi ghee / oil


Pressure cook spinach with ¼ cup water for 2 whistles.

Grind it to smooth paste on cooling.

Cut the cottage cheese into small cubes.

Now you have two options (1.Dip them in warm water for 5 to 7 minutes so it turns soft 2. You can also shallow fry them (I prefer option 1) )

In a pan heat ghee, add chopped ginger and garlic, saute for a minute, add finely chopped onions.

Saute it till they turn light golden brown and add chopped tomatoes and green chillies.

Add all masala's and salt. Stir it till it leave the ghee from sides.

Now add spinach and let it cook on medium flame till it turns thick or the required consistency. Add paneer pieces to this. Let it cook on low flame for another 4-5 minutes.

Garnish with fresh cream/butter/ghee and serve with hot chapati's. I love it with makki ki roti .
