Tomato Chutney


  • 1 Small onion, chopped

  • 5 to 6 red tomatoes chopped

  • 1 tsp Garlic, minced

  • 4 to 5 dry red chillies

  • 1 tsp Cumin seeds

  • ½ tsp Chilly powder (if required)

  • Salt to taste

  • 1 tbsp Oil

  • 1 tbsp fresh Tamarind paste, fresh

  • ½ tsp sugar

  • ½ tsp mustard seeds

  • few curry leaves


    In a pan add oil, Fry red chillies and half of curry leaves . Allow it to cool.

    Grind together chopped onion,tomato,garlic with fried red chillies and curry leaves and salt to a fine paste.

    In a pan, add oil, mustard seeds, cumin seeds .Once they start crackling add tamarind paste, red chilly powder if required, curry leaves and sugar. To this add the fine paste. Mix it well.

    Cook this on a low flame, till oil separates.

    Tomato chutney is ready to serve with dosa or idli and store in air tight container in fridge.
