Semolina Veggies Upma


1 cup semolina (suji don’t use the fine one)

1 onion sliced

1 small carrot finely chopped

1/4 cup peas (I used frozen ones)

1 tomato chopped

½ cup cabbage and capsicum finely chopped

2-1/2 cups water

1/2 tsp mustard seeds

2 green chillies sliced

1 tsp ginger chopped

Few curry leaves

1/4 tsp turmeric powder

salt according to taste

red chilly powder according to taste

1/4tsp coriander powder

2 tbsp oil

Chopped cilantro for garnishing

1tbsp lemon juice as seasoning


1. Heat oil in a pan and add the mustard seeds, when they start crackling add the curry leaves ,ginger and green chillies .Fry them on slow flame for few seconds. Add sliced onions and fry for a minute till they turn translucent.

2. Add tomato and fry it for a minute , than add all other veggies and stir fry for a minute. Add turmeric powder, salt, red chilly powder,coriander powder and Suji. Fry it on a slow flame for about 2-3 minutes. In the meantime boil the 2-1/2 cups of water in separate pan.

3. Add the boiling water to the suji mixture and stir gently. Once the mixture starts boiling, reduce the heat and cover it with lid. Cook it for few minutes and then gently stir.

4. Turn off the flame and serve hot, garnish with chopped cilantro and lemon juice.
