Rice Idli


1 cup rice

½ cup urad dal (split black gram)

Salt to taste

Oil for greasing


Soak rice and dal separately for 6 to 8 hours.(you can also soak in luke warm water for 2 -3 hours)

Grind them coarsely to very smooth paste . You can use little water at a time to grind it smooth.

Now allow it to ferment over night.

You will see mixture has raised in volume.

Add salt and mix.

Grease the idli moulds and add a spoon full of batter into each mould.

Steam them for around 15 minutes.

If making in microwave idli moulds give 4 minutes.

Serve it with coconut chutney, tomato chutney or sambar.
